Where can you see over 600 species of birds? Why, Texas, of course. And if you plan on birding in Texas, the Great Texas Coastal Birding Trail is THE place to see over 75% of these birds. The Great Texas Coastal Birding Trail runs along 500 miles of the Texas coastline from Beaumont to the Rio Grande Valley, encompassing existing as well as newly developed birding sites. Two major migratory flyways intersect along the Birding Trail, offering birders a great opportunity to add to their life lists. A true avian treat awaits you at the Texas coast: from Whooping Cranes to Black-Chinned Hummingbirds, from Painted Buntings to Magnificent Frigatebirds, Royal Terns, American Oystercatchers, ducks, hawks, Piping Plovers plus several hundred other species.
BIRDING is an activity, some say an obsession, of increasing popularity. Authorities have estimated that there are some 61 million birders in this country today almost the same number as all the hunters and fishermen combined. With close to 600 documented bird species, Texas retains its claim to being one of the most exciting places to pursue this activity in the continental United States. More than 75 percent of all birds occurring in the continental United States have been reported from Texas.
Tens of thousands of people visit Texas every year to observe the great variety of birdlife found here. The Whooping Crane, which winters at the Aransas National Wildlife Refuge, and the Golden-cheeked Warbler, which nests exclusively on the Edwards Plateau of central Texas, have received much publicity. However, there are many other specialties, such as Green Kingfisher, Black-capped Vireo, Altamira Oriole, Green Jay, Lucifer Hummingbird and Colima Warbler, that attract birders from around the world to Texas. Many birds reach the northern limits of their range in the Lower Rio Grande Valley, providing a unique experience to birders visiting this sub-tropical region. Spring migration along the Upper Texas Coast draws thousands of people annually to the small towns of High Island and Sabine Pass. Between the mountains of the Trans-Pecos and the pine forests of east Texas can be found a remarkable diversity of birdlife that is unequaled in any other state.
Dolphin Watching Do's and Don'ts

Dolphins are curious so whenever possible let them approach you.
When dolphins are feeding or preoccupied, do NOT approach too closely.
When approaching a group of dolphins, come in from a position parallel and slightly to the rear - not from the front or immediately behind.
Do NOT try to get the boat in the middle of a large school of dolphins. Watch from one side.
Always approach and depart SLOWLY.
Avoid sudden changes in speed or direction.
Keep noise levels to a minimum.
NEVER chase or harass dolphins, and try not to separate or scatter groups.
When stationary, especially if there are dolphins near the propeller, keep the engine in neutral.
If the dolphins are bow riding, do NOT stop or slow down suddenly.
Limit the time spent with any group of dolphins to 15-30 minutes.
Avoid overcrowding the dolphins - if you see more than one boat watching, move on.
Do NOT attempt to feed the dolphins.
